Lt Col. Winston Churchill found himself at the front, after the failure of the Gallipoli Campaign. While it wasn't his fault, he took the blame for the problems it caused the government of the time.
Churchill took to the role and led by example. He had been a cavalry officer before he went into politics, and made the 6th Royal Scot Fusiliers a fine unit. He didn't stay at the front for long and returned to Westminster after the dust blew over, and he was found to have not been the problem.
